Experience the Benefits of Solar Energy for Agriculture
Saskatchewan farmers have a tremendous opportunity to reduce their energy costs and capitalize on government rebates and incentive programs by investing in renewable power generation technologies. Solar panels can be installed as a “cash crop” or mixed in with livestock pastures to increase the per-area yield of your farmland and improve your cash flow.
Either way, it’s time you started taking advantage of clean, renewable energy that’s as reliable as the Saskatchewan sunshine.
Reduce Electricity Costs and Own Your Power with Solar Energy
Ready to reduce your monthly electricity bill? What if you could pay nothing for all your electricity for the entire year?
Under Saskatchewan’s Net Metering program, solar power producers can feed the energy that they produce directly into Saskatchewan’s energy grid. When you feed power into the grid, you earn a credit that can be applied toward your monthly electricity bill. If you generate more electricity than you used, you could find yourself with an annual electricity bill of $0.
Whatever your annual energy requirements are, we can design and install a solar power generation system that meets your needs.
In addition to producing your own electricity, solar power generation offers you protection from increased electricity rates. If Saskatchewan’s energy rates go up, you simply go on producing your own electricity.
Go Net-Zero and Green Your Business
In 2019, we’re meeting an increasing number of farmers that are focusing on ways to reduce their carbon footprint and move towards a more sustainable model of agriculture. Solar power generation is an environmentally sustainable method of harvesting renewable energy from the sun. Solar energy is clean, does not consume fossil fuels and does not result in the emission of harmful chemicals into the atmosphere.
Growing numbers of consumers are expressing concern about whether businesses operate in an environmentally sustainable way and are choosing to preferentially support businesses that take care of the environment. Your customers would love to know that your products are “Made using 100% green solar energy” or “Made without the use of fossil fuels”.
Rebates and Incentives for Agricultural Solar Installations
Saskatchewan farmers can take advantage of lucrative rebates and incentive programs that help reduce the cost of solar power generation. There are also special tax considerations for businesses that invest in clean power generation projects.
Net Metering Program
We already mentioned the net metering program, Saskatchewan’s two-way metering program for small power producers. This is the program that most solar power producers use to get their annual electricity bill down to $0. As part of the net metering program, Saskatchewan offers a one-time rebate to help cover the cost of solar power installations. The rebate is valued at $0.61/W based on the power of the system, maxed at $20,000, so a 10kW solar system would come with a rebate of $6100.
Power Generation Partner Program
The power generation partner program is for Saskatchewan businesses with more powerful solar power generation systems, rated between 100kW and 1MW in total power. Under this program, power producers can apply and participate in a bidding process to provide renewable energy to the province at an agreed price.
Participants in the power generation partner program can choose to either generate electricity for themselves or sell it to the province – but not both.
Accelerated Capital Cost Allowance
The Canadian Income Tax Code makes special provisions for farmers who invest in clean energy generation systems and technology. Solar power generation systems qualify for a capital cost allowance that allows farmers to write off installation costs at a 100% rate on the first year it is installed. This is much preferable to the normal rules of capital cost allowance that would require asset depreciation over a much longer term.
